Medina Inpatient Hospice Unit Resumes
Patient Care at Windfall Road Site

We are excited to announce that HMC Hospice of Medina County is once again admitting patients at the Medina Inpatient Hospice Unit on Windfall Rd. The facility, known for its gracious homelike setting and comprehensive support, resumed patient care this month following a temporary closure in June 2020.

“We know how much pride the Medina community takes in the facility. Those whose loved ones received care there through the years have an especially deep connection, so we are grateful we can once again resume operations there,” said Bill Finn, President and CEO.

Around-the-clock specialized hospice care

The facility provides a skilled level of hospice care for patients experiencing acute pain or requiring intensive symptom management. Care is provided around the clock by a transdisciplinary team of hospice specialists. The ultimate goal, once symptoms are well-managed, is for patients to be able to return to their home setting to continue their care with HMC’s community hospice team.

Short-term respite care enables patients to stay for up to five days to provide rest and relief for their family caregivers. Residential care is available for patients with short life expectancies, or those who may not have adequate community support systems in place. Interim care stays are also available to help patients and their families bridge the gap between care settings.

The hospice inpatient unit is well-equipped to provide complex care, including the monitoring of labs, portable X-rays and 24/7 on-site pharmacy services for our hospice inpatients. Care incorporates ongoing emotional and spiritual support to patients and family members.

The eight well-appointed private suites have attached bathrooms. Guests are welcome to spend the night with loved ones. Each suite is furnished with a sofa bed and rollaway beds are also available. A chapel, kitchenette, laundry and restroom are all available for family members who wish to stay overnight or spend quality time with their loved  ones.

In warm weather, beds can be moved outdoors so patients can enjoy the beautiful country setting. An adjacent park with walking trails, playground and pond offers a welcoming respite for visiting family members.

Home away from home

The warm environment provides a home away from home for families while their loved ones are in our care. Family lounges are available for private family conversations or taking a break for rest and relaxation. Comfort coves feature cozy seating areas nestled between large bay windows, perfect for curling up with a book or calling a friend. Other amenities include on-site laundry and meal options, guest Wi-Fi in all suites and virtual visits with secure Skype technology.

Committed to the community

Finn said HMC is dedicated to maintaining a strong presence in the community. The facility also continues to serve as the operational hub for the Robertson Bereavement Center and the HMC hospice teams that provide care in private residences, nursing facilities and assisted living communities. The HMC campus, including its dedicated Veterans Garden and tribute walkways, play an important role in memorializing loved ones. Life’s Treasures thrift shop, just off Medina Square, continues to serve the community, with proceeds benefitting hospice families and volunteer services in Medina.
